Poems: grappled

When you grappled with your conscience
who won?

Was it like some kinky mud wrestling?
--but less fun?

Damned if you
damned if you don't
no matter what
it's all wrong
because someone
will condemn you
even if you've been in pain
enough already.

Or was it more like
stirring up
layers of salt
that retained their
even after being
mixed up?

I wish
you could see yourself
as I do.

A bad man
would not even consider himself to be in a dilemma.

The sweetness
of your spirit
means that you
are confused.

Grapple away.
To me you've already won.
